The following notice is aimed at those who use batteries or products with built-in batteries and no longer resell them in the form delivered to them (end users):

1. Legal basis

In connection with the sale of batteries and accumulators, we as a retailer are obliged to inform you of the following legal requirements:

  • European Union: Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 on batteries and waste batteries

  • Germany: Battery Act (BattG)

  • Austria: Batteries Ordinance (Federal Law Gazette II No. 158/2021)

  • Switzerland: Ordinance on the Return, Take-Back and Disposal of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (VREG) and Chemicals Risk Reduction Ordinance (ChemRRV)

These regulations serve to protect the environment and health through proper collection, recycling and disposal of batteries.

2. Do not dispose of in household waste

Batteries and accumulators may not in household waste be disposed of.
As an end user, you are legally obliged to dispose of used batteries at a suitable collection point.

Used batteries contain valuable raw materials (e.g. iron, nickel, lithium, zinc), but also pollutants (e.g. lead, mercury or cadmium), which can endanger the environment and health if disposed of improperly.

3. Free return of used batteries

You can use used batteries free return:

  • at public collection points your municipality or city,

  • in Retail collection boxes,

  • or directly to us as a retailer in household quantities.

4. Meaning of the battery symbols

5. Vehicle batteries – deposit system

When selling vehicle batteries (e.g. starter, lighting or ignition batteries) according to § 10 BattG a Deposit of €7,50 incl. VAT charged when purchasing no old battery is returned.

  • When returning an old battery → deposit refund.

  • Shipping of old vehicle batteries is not permitted (Dangerous goods regulations).

  • Alternatively: Return to a municipal collection point with proof of age (max. 2 weeks old).

6. Lithium batteries – Safety instructions

  • Do not open, damage or heat.

  • Avoid short circuits (tape the poles).

  • Use only with suitable devices and chargers.

  • Immediately dispose of damaged or swollen batteries at a collection point.

7. Environmentally friendly use and service life

  • Prefer rechargeable batteries.

  • Turn off devices when not in use.

  • Store in a cool and dry place.

  • Dispose of used batteries regularly instead of storing them.

8. Manufacturer and importer obligations

We only carry products from manufacturers who are properly registered and participate in approved take-back systems:

  • Germany: EAR Foundation (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Register)

  • Austria: EDM Register (Federal Environment Agency)

  • Switzerland: take-back system recognized by the FOEN

We comply with all reporting, labeling, and verification requirements in accordance with applicable EU regulations.

Authorization for deliveries to other EU countries

If we supply batteries or battery-containing products to EU Member States in which we do not have an establishment, we will appoint a EU Representative (Authorized Representative). This person serves as the contact for market surveillance, maintains technical documentation, and supports compliance with manufacturer and take-back obligations.

This:

  • serves as a contact for authorities in the target country,

  • maintains technical documents and ensures conformity,

  • monitors compliance with manufacturer and take-back obligations.

Authorised representatives have been appointed for all EU Member States to which we supply batteries or devices containing batteries.

10. Customers outside the EU

For deliveries to Switzerland or other non-EU countries, national return systems apply. Please use the local collection points. Returns to us from abroad are not permitted.

11. Information rights under Article 74 of the EU Battery Regulation

End users are entitled to information on safe use, storage, and disposal, take-back and recycling options, the meaning of labels, and the environmental benefits of reuse and recycling. This page will be continuously updated.
